“Take life one Cuppa at a time”

Hello my dear friends! There is quite long time since I wrote last blog post but how fast time passed!!! I have been very busy but made also many new things!

Sometimes I mentioned in my posts about a secret work I was making. Well few days ago the pattern was launched and now I can show you what was my secret project last year.

The whole year I was in BOM CUPPA program organized from Sue Spargo. It was very intensive program. It lasted 12 months and I learnt so much during these months about wool applique and not only, there were lot of creative stitching and applique with cotton too. Different needles and different threads. I think I have become quite good with different needles and threads thanks for this BOM.

I used first time wool batting and have to admit it was dream to quilt!!!

Here we go with this Cuppa quilt

Cake for two

Hi, few weeks ago I showed you the piece of cake I made. ( You can read the post here )

It was my daughter’s birthday coming and I thought to make something special. I choose from  318 Patchwork Patterns by Kumiko Fujita the pattern for the cake. After the first cake I decided to make another one. I was on a good way but didn’t keep going. The birthday was coming and I didn’t have time to hand sew more cakes. I had to decide what to do with two pieces of cake.  Thinking, thinking thinking..a pillow or two??  Then I found: It is not “Tea For Two” but it is  ” Cake For Two”  !!

online trunk show

First of all I want to say thanks to Whims and Fancies for this great Trunk Full of quilts – online trunk show. I hope you have time to go and see the links-there are so many beautiful quilts!

I am going to show you few quilts which I made before I started to write this blog

kes-2014-265

This quilt I love very much! The pattern is from Sujata Shah Cultural Fusion Quilts book. I love everything on it- it is red-green ( my favorite colors). I really enjoyed doing it!  I had bought her book as ebook and it was funny because I had made this quilt before the paper book came out!

This quilt is summer quilt with summer stars! I wanted to do something with light colors- I had only small pieces of fabrics (at that time I just had found patchwork hobby) so I tried to join  all those small pieces I had. There are fabrics from my  daughter’s small dresses and few vintage fabrics too.

And the last quilt I want to show is the biggest one I have made (81″x 88″). This was also a first quilt I made quilting with my sewing machine,Janome. The quilting was a really huge project,I said many times for myself that I am not going to quilt so large quilts with my sewing machine anymore, but when I saw this quilt ready I had already forgotten what I said.. This Lattice quilt pattern is from Modern One-block quilts book by Natalia Bonner and Kathleen Whiting.I love to look upon those graphic lines and start too see circles and squares.

Thank you for visiting here in my blog. Have a nice week!

..and there is still 35 days till Christmas..

Coasters

I have lot of scraps, small pieces of fabrics and because it is very hard for me to throw away something like fabric you can imagine how is my room…

I thought to make a small tablecloth. I started to make paper piecing first by sewing with machine but as I was keep going I realized that my fabrics were so tiny ones so the only way to keep going was to do all by hand!! Then I made a new decision – not a tablecloth, I would be lost in hand sewing for the whole year! I had to find something else and as I sew and saw how the blocks game out I knew:  The coasters!! Now are they coasters or mug rugs – as you want. ( If the mug rug is something which takes also a piece of cake, so these are not mug rugs they are “only” coasters)

My Christmas Quilt

Hello, I must be the worst blogger in the world! When I started to have a blog I had in my mind to write a new post every two weeks and  now I realize that I hardly write once in a month!! I am admiring those quilter bloggers who are so productive and they are writing regularly about their doings. I know it is a matter of time and how to organize it. Just I am not so good at that, I have too many things to do and then the days are passing by…

Anyway I managed to do my Christmas quilt. I wanted to do something red and white and something modern. I got an idea from nerospost ‘North Star’ changed direction. I made few stars from red and a little bit grey to center and I found from my boxes small pieces of fabric with red stripes and the trees were ready.

I made also few hearts and reindeer (applique)  but on the way I wanted to keep my quilt a simple one and didn’t want to make it too heavy.

The challenge for me was to make the quilting. There was so much negative space and I wanted to fill it. To the blocks with the stars I made back-and-forth lines. When I got used it was easy to make. Now I understand why it is important not to have bulks with the seams, I broke five topstitch needles when I was working on this quilt! The most of the negative space is filled with pebbles, I think they are easy to do and I love the texture that they add to a quilt.

Now I am going to show you the pictures I managed to take. You can see the weather is more like in the autumn and tomorrow it will be the 1st December!  I want to thank you for your comments and emails. It is lovely to hear one hey from the other quilters and it is nice to get to know the other quilters in this big world!

Sew Fresh Quilts

Handsewing and quilting

Hello my dear friends, I just want to show you how the things are going:

My star has been growing more

DSC_0891

Now I should make these star-flowers four or five more in different colors. I think I am going to have a small break because I have to collect some fabrics and it is quite a lot of work to hand sew all these small pieces.

DSC_0892

The pictures are not the best ones and my desingwall has a white background so I took another photo with different light

DSC_0892 (2)

After all this piecing I missed my sewing machine. I cooked yesterday for today so I had few hours today in the morning  to do quilting. And it was lovely; the thread was not cutting!

I hope the quilt will be ready in the near future so I can show it to you.

With my best wishes, Anneli
