A piece of cake!

First of all, because this is my first posting here in this year I wish all you good health and joyful moments in this year!

What I have been doing these days? I have been doing the last month something what I was doing occasionally the last 12 months. It is a secret work and I hope it will be finished soon so I can show it to you. Actually it is almost ready. I just have to make a quilting and I am not sure how to do it because it is project with wool!

I made also something  I am going to show you now! I made a hexagon star. I spent a whole day by drawing different sizes of hexagon to make templates to find the size I wanted.

I should have taken the photo from this star beside the matchbox  so you could see  the size but maybe it helps if I say that the outer edge is 4 “.

I also made one piece of cake  and it was not a piece of cake at all!I made the star above with paper – paper piecing and the piece of cake  without paper, just piecing!

Huh, I had also to make hand sewing because there were tiny pieces and it was not possible to use sewing machine. In fact this could be a house too!! Anyway I think I am not going to put it down . I want to do some changes to this cake and I hope  I can show you soon the new piece.

Last evening I finished at least the tree I made applique. I made it a pillow and put the zipper behind. Can you see the ladybug under the tree?

Few days ago we had snow here in our small town. The olive trees  were covered with snow!  We lost the snow at the same day and today it is again a “green” day.

Coasters

I have lot of scraps, small pieces of fabrics and because it is very hard for me to throw away something like fabric you can imagine how is my room…

I thought to make a small tablecloth. I started to make paper piecing first by sewing with machine but as I was keep going I realized that my fabrics were so tiny ones so the only way to keep going was to do all by hand!! Then I made a new decision – not a tablecloth, I would be lost in hand sewing for the whole year! I had to find something else and as I sew and saw how the blocks game out I knew:  The coasters!! Now are they coasters or mug rugs – as you want. ( If the mug rug is something which takes also a piece of cake, so these are not mug rugs they are “only” coasters)

Handsewing and quilting

Hello my dear friends, I just want to show you how the things are going:

My star has been growing more

Now I should make these star-flowers four or five more in different colors. I think I am going to have a small break because I have to collect some fabrics and it is quite a lot of work to hand sew all these small pieces.

The pictures are not the best ones and my desingwall has a white background so I took another photo with different light

After all this piecing I missed my sewing machine. I cooked yesterday for today so I had few hours today in the morning  to do quilting. And it was lovely; the thread was not cutting!

I hope the quilt will be ready in the near future so I can show it to you.

With my best wishes, Anneli

My first quilt

Hello! Today it was sunny. I arranged my quilts and want now to show you the first quilt I made. It was few years ago, I found pattern from Internet, I had some fabric and I was ready to take my first step to the world of the quilts. I knew sewing from my school time and fortunately I had brought my sewing machine from Finland when I got married! I made quilting by hand, I didn’t know actually what was the right quilting but I tried to make tiny, tiny stitches.. And I finished this quilt in very short time, I was so enthusiastic with my new hobby!! The binding is quite thick, I didn’t have an idea about basting! I wanted to do the quilt for my youngest daughter and because I didn’t have a lot of fabric I tried to make it larger with binding!!! Now it is a little bit short for my daughter but she still loves to be covered with it.

Here are some pictures about the quilt. The light was doing some tricks , I told it was a sunny day!
