A New Start

It is long time from my last post. And many things happenend since that. Now it’s time to go further.

I couldn’t imagine to forget so easily blog writing and it may take  a long time to complete this post trying to find out how to add photos, to add the links and so on..

When I started this blog, my very good friend Teje from Nero’s post helped me a lot. She helped me with everything. We had long discussions on the phone about blogs and quilting. She was the one who courage me to start to write a blog.  When she passed away I had no mood to share my sewing projects here on blog. After that my mother got ill, last year I traveled to Finland every two months, there were no time for sewing. And then I lost again one of my friends! All is in life and we have to keep going.. From that period there are no big quilts, the only sewing was small projects.

And so today I sit near my computer and want to show what I made today..

I have told it earlier that I am not a blue person. I like blue color and I think it is fantastic and beautiful but it doesn’t represent me. At least not now, who knows one day!

I put my hands into my scrap basket, pulled with closed eyes one scrap…yes!!! It was a blue one!!! My challenge for today: to make something which is blue!

I am so enthusiastic with these pot holders. I used insul-bright to have a heat resistant, not heat proof!

Though the blue pictures  may have a little bit summer mood,  the autumn is coming.

Have a wonderful day!

“Take life one Cuppa at a time”

Hello my dear friends! There is quite long time since I wrote last blog post but how fast time passed!!! I have been very busy but made also many new things!

Sometimes I mentioned in my posts about a secret work I was making. Well few days ago the pattern was launched and now I can show you what was my secret project last year.

The whole year I was in BOM CUPPA program organized from Sue Spargo. It was very intensive program. It lasted 12 months and I learnt so much during these months about wool applique and not only, there were lot of creative stitching and applique with cotton too. Different needles and different threads. I think I have become quite good with different needles and threads thanks for this BOM.

I used first time wool batting and have to admit it was dream to quilt!!!

Here we go with this Cuppa quilt

A Little Bit Of Everything

Today it is a lovely sunny day and the feeling of spring is in the air. I have so many ideas in my head, meaning the sewing of course, but feeling sad at the same time because my hand is not as it should be. I hope it will be better soon and not to be so painful. I try to avoid big projects now till I am again in my full strength but when the sewing bee has bitten there is no matter if I use one or two hands but Have to sew something!!

This time I made few small projects and happy ones.

Inspired by the houses I showed in my last post. Using again the scraps (I feel they never end!) I decided to try to make pincushions like houses adding of course some stitches with embellishment thread.

When I see this tiny house it reminds me about the stories my grandmother told me when it was a bedtime. The magic world of stories! As in fairy tales there are houses and in with the houses there are also animals. I thought coming Easter, I remembered the grass we grew to the plate every Easter in Finland and then decorated the plate with small handmade chickens. I found pattern for small chickens from Tatyana, you should go to see what wonderful things she makes, I love her creativity. This small chick is so cute, I have to make more, I just love it!!

Having company this chick I made a new small pouch

Small houses

The last days I have been sewing small houses. This is a great way to use the scraps. The size of the ready house block is 4″ x 4″ so you can imagine how small the houses are. And I didn’t use the paper!! I made totally 24 blocks and I am thinking how to finish this house project.

Before showing you the photos I just want to say in case you didn’t see the sidebar: I started today in INSTAGRAM!!!You can also follow me there.

And now back to the houses:

Cake for two

Hi, few weeks ago I showed you the piece of cake I made. ( You can read the post here )

It was my daughter’s birthday coming and I thought to make something special. I choose from  318 Patchwork Patterns by Kumiko Fujita the pattern for the cake. After the first cake I decided to make another one. I was on a good way but didn’t keep going. The birthday was coming and I didn’t have time to hand sew more cakes. I had to decide what to do with two pieces of cake.  Thinking, thinking thinking..a pillow or two??  Then I found: It is not “Tea For Two” but it is  ” Cake For Two”  !!

A piece of cake!

First of all, because this is my first posting here in this year I wish all you good health and joyful moments in this year!

What I have been doing these days? I have been doing the last month something what I was doing occasionally the last 12 months. It is a secret work and I hope it will be finished soon so I can show it to you. Actually it is almost ready. I just have to make a quilting and I am not sure how to do it because it is project with wool!

I made also something  I am going to show you now! I made a hexagon star. I spent a whole day by drawing different sizes of hexagon to make templates to find the size I wanted.

dsc_0149

I should have taken the photo from this star beside the matchbox  so you could see  the size but maybe it helps if I say that the outer edge is 4 “.

I also made one piece of cake  and it was not a piece of cake at all!I made the star above with paper – paper piecing and the piece of cake  without paper, just piecing!

dsc_0159

Huh, I had also to make hand sewing because there were tiny pieces and it was not possible to use sewing machine. In fact this could be a house too!! Anyway I think I am not going to put it down . I want to do some changes to this cake and I hope  I can show you soon the new piece.

Last evening I finished at least the tree I made applique. I made it a pillow and put the zipper behind. Can you see the ladybug under the tree?

dsc_0153

Few days ago we had snow here in our small town. The olive trees  were covered with snow!  We lost the snow at the same day and today it is again a “green” day.

Few days for Christmas

During these days I have been mostly knitting and just little bit sewing.

Pouches,Boxes,Scraps

Everything started from here:

dsc_0113

I organized my scraps according the color. I try not to throw anything so I have a lot small leftovers and had to do something with them. I chose pink color and started to sew…

dsc_0120

But what to do with this small piece of new fabric?

dsc_0117

Maybe a blanket for a Rosy? ( Rosy is my daughter’s cuddly,my daughter took Rosy along where ever she went when she was small, so Rosy traveled in many countries and now she is sitting on the bed)

I thought that blanket would be too rosy for Rosy and ….

dsc_0145

The “blanket” made a new appearance as a pouch! And now when I made the first Ι remembered the nail polish I had and I made few more these pouches…

dsc_0147

dsc_0146

During these days when I made these pouches I met one boy who showed me his favorite Lego, Mini Cooper. He told me that he would like to have a nice box to keep it inside. I asked him to come  to my house to make a box. One day he came with his mother and he made this box by himself and he was so happy!

dsc_0158

dsc_0157

I made also few boxes..they are always needed.

And here are all the pouches and boxes together:

Few quilts from my quilting life-online trunk show

Today it is the last day to take part to Trunk Full Show and it happened to be very busy weekend( as always!) and almost forgot  the trunk show. Thanks to Teje and Nero’s post I remembered it. Thanks Teje!

trunk_shows-2016-200

online trunk show

First of all I want to say thanks to Whims and Fancies for this great Trunk Full of quilts – online trunk show. I hope you have time to go and see the links-there are so many beautiful quilts!

I am going to show you few quilts which I made before I started to write this blog

kes-2014-265

This quilt I love very much! The pattern is from Sujata Shah Cultural Fusion Quilts book. I love everything on it- it is red-green ( my favorite colors). I really enjoyed doing it!  I had bought her book as ebook and it was funny because I had made this quilt before the paper book came out!

annelinomakone-win_20140930_162416

This quilt is summer quilt with summer stars! I wanted to do something with light colors- I had only small pieces of fabrics (at that time I just had found patchwork hobby) so I tried to join  all those small pieces I had. There are fabrics from my  daughter’s small dresses and few vintage fabrics too.

annelinomakone-win_20140511_115956

And the last quilt I want to show is the biggest one I have made (81″x 88″). This was also a first quilt I made quilting with my sewing machine,Janome. The quilting was a really huge project,I said many times for myself that I am not going to quilt so large quilts with my sewing machine anymore, but when I saw this quilt ready I had already forgotten what I said.. This Lattice quilt pattern is from Modern One-block quilts book by Natalia Bonner and Kathleen Whiting.I love to look upon those graphic lines and start too see circles and squares.

Thank you for visiting here in my blog. Have a nice week!

..and there is still 35 days till Christmas..
